Mailbag: Will the Ravens hunt down Jadeveon Clowney (again)?

Will the Ravens follow the Joker again this offseason?

Mink: After spending a lot of time (including in Mailbag) talking about the possibility of Jadeveon Clowney becoming Raven, it reportedly almost happened.

According to reports, the Ravens explored the possibility of the Jacksonville Jaguars signing Crowney in the last offseason, and then immediately traded him to the Ravens. The Jaguars could have covered part of Clowney's expenses, but in return they would be compensated by the picks (or players). However, the NFL reportedly blocked it. According to reports, the Joker also prefers to come to Baltimore than Tennessee.

However, after Clowney has experienced a difficult 2020 season, it remains to be seen whether the two sides are interested. Before undergoing knee surgery, the Joker only played eight games for the Titans. He was not fired, only 6 quarterback hits and 19 steals.

Clowney is the No. 1 pick in 2014. He is a special talented and weird athlete, good at physical fitness. However, in the past two seasons, injuries have been a problem, which has left a question mark on his durability. According to Spotrac, this is why his current market value is $6.5 million a year in transactions.

This seems to be a worthy gamble, or the result may not be. There are many high-quality pass rushers and rich prospects in free agents, so the Ravens are not lacking in options.

From the star-studded 2020 rookie class, what kind of growth can fans expect to see? #ravensmailbag

Downing: The 2020 draft class has a strong rookie season. Several rookies played important roles-Patrick Quinn, JK Dobbins, Till Phillips, Devin Duvine-they played well. Of course, they met some rookies along the way, but the talent in this class is obvious. In general, it is a challenging task for this team to enter the NFL without offseason practice or preseason games. The fact that so many people are able to play immediately is a testament to the quality of the course. The state of offseason practice is up in the air, but this group should at least have a more normal training camp and preseason. In addition, they have the knowledge and experience of their rookie season, which can take their games to the next level.

More specifically, both Quinn and Dobbins talked about the big goals they set for themselves this offseason. We found them in the episode of The Lounge podcast (subtle plug-in, here is a link to Queen and Dobbins), and they are already working hard to prepare for the sophomore season. Queen specifically pointed out that film research is a key area.

If Tavon Young suffers another serious injury, causing him to miss most of 2021 or the entire 2021, do you think the Ravens will leave him? Do you still expect them to draft a spare nickel coin as an insurance policy this year? They almost have to be at this point.

Mink: First of all, you better knock on the wood, Dan. I really hope that Tavon can stay healthy this year, not only for the Ravens to sign a lucrative contract extension a few years ago, so that the Ravens finally have the best cornerback, but also for Tavon. The injuries that ended three seasons in four years were cruel. Having said that, I do think the Ravens need to consider drafting a substitute. Although Marlon Humphrey did a great job at being called to the cornerback position, it's time for him to work where he does best-outside. The Ravens need more nickel depth and can use potential future starters to train.

If the Ravens seek WR in the free agency market, how likely is it that they will also solve this position early in the draft?

Downing: I really think it depends on who they add to the free agency market. For example, if the Ravens find a way to sign wide receiver Kenny Golladay (Kenny Golladay), and the latter will sign a long-term contract at a high price, then I don't want them to be drafted in the first two rounds. They have other problems to solve, especially if they lose passers Matthew Judon and Yannick Ngakoue.

But if the Ravens sign a free agent receiver at a much lower price, it may be a short-term deal, then I don't rule out an early receiver in the draft. The Ravens may lose veteran Willie Snyder IV in the free agency market. Devin Duvernay and James Proche showed some talents, but they are still unproven. The Ravens can benefit from adding multiple new receivers to this group, and they may consider free agency and draft at the same time.

I have a question for my blog Ravens Rundown. With Keith Williams and Ti Martin joining the coaching staff, how much can our fans expect from offense? Will young people like Devin Duvernay and James Proche be more represented? Thanks! #RavensPouch

Mink: I think John Harbaugh's explanation of the roles of wide receiver coach Tee Martin and passing expert Keith Williams is interesting. Martin will play a more traditional role, while Williams will focus on the route of all weapons in the Ravens offense. None of these job descriptions included changes to Baltimore's passing plan. The Ravens’ plans and routes will be under the microscope this offseason, but I don’t think the offense will change dramatically with the addition of several new assistant coaches and some new ideas. On the contrary, Williams seems to be to guide a better execution mechanism.

I asked John Harbaugh about Devin Duvernay and James Proche II, and he said he hoped that both would be a "big leap forward." To do this, they need more representatives. Due to some mistakes in the wide receiver department in Baltimore, I bet they have a chance in 2021 (if they get a chance in this offseason).

Are there any updates from fans who may appear in the stands next season? I miss the energy of the bank!

Downing: I will start this answer with two warnings: 1. The Ravens and the NFL have not officially announced the seating capacity for the upcoming season. 2. As we all know, a lot of changes will happen in six months. Excluding this situation now, it looks like things are moving in the right direction. This fall, let the fans return to the M&T Bank Stadium, which may even be fully loaded. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has just relaxed the restrictions on outdoor sports venues to 50% of the capacity, and the introduction of the vaccine should allow all adults to be vaccinated before the start of the football season.

Harbo made it clear at this week's press conference that he hopes fans will return to the stands this season. "I will publicly state that this will definitely happen," Huber said. "I mean, come on. It's easy for me."

Quarterback Kenji Bahar, cornerback Kevin Tolliver and offensive tackle Jared Jones-Smith have signed to join the training team.

For the first time this season, the Ravens launched the fans' favorite all-black jersey.

This may be ugly, but the Ravens are a team that finds a way to win instead of being satisfied with a simple reason for losing.

Experts agree with Ravens' fourth and eleventh blitzkrieg logic. Tyler Huntley's loss was "a blessing in disguise." Rashod Bateman quietly had a huge impact in the victory over the Bears.

According to reports, the Ravens third-line quarterback Trace McSorley will join the 53-man roster of the Arizona Cardinals.

John Harbaugh talked about deciding to hit zero screens on the Bears' last touchdown. Chris Westry is a serious and responsible young player who will learn from his growing experience. Nick Boyle made 32 appearances in his season debut.

Ravens linebacker Malik Harrison has been designated to resume training. Baltimore also gave up guard/defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie.

On Monday afternoon, head coach John Harper updated his quarterback after Lamar Jackson had to be absent in Chicago.

With two sacks on the Bears, outside linebacker Tyus Bowser became the team leader.

The Steelers' Keim Hayward stated that his apparent blow to Justin Herbert was "not malicious." The main force ran back to Joe Mixon, carrying a huge load for the Bengals.

Andy Dalton talked about beating his former rival Ravens almost again, and the Bears discussed what happened when their defense collapsed late in the game.

The linebacker played their best game of the season in the victory over the Bears. The offensive line is stable in one area, but unstable in another area. Due to poor communication and problem solving, another pair of splash games thwarted the dominant defensive effort. The special team has their trust. In the absence of Lamar Jackson, support for backup quarterback Taylor Huntley spanned the league and other regions.
