The feeling good day on Saturday continued to have a trickle effect for the Montana Grizzlies.
Convincingly defeated Montana 29-10 in the 120th Wilderness Brawl, followed by the No. 6 seed in the Divisional Playoffs of the Football Championship, won a goodbye week, and then the home playoffs (slightly Will be introduced in detail later)). Two of the Grizzlies players who made a huge contribution in Saturday's big win won weekly honors.
UM Sports Information Director Eric Taber reported that the Montana Grizzlies won two weekly honors at the Big Sky conference today (Monday). Linebacker Patrick O'Connell was named ROOT Sports Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, while kicker Kevin Macias won the ROOT Sports Big Sky Special Team Player of the Week.
O'Connell once again became the leader of Montana's dominant defense against Michigan State University, spending most of the afternoon in the Bobcats backcourt. The junior completed a game-high 11 tackles (4 singles), including 1.5 sacks for 11 yards, and a quarterback hurried. He has 13 sacks this season, ranking first in the Big Sky team, and now ranks fourth in the total number of sacks in the FCS, and is ranked 8th in the total number of tackles this season, with 91 times.
Kevin Macias had one of the fantastic days for the Grizzlies. He shot 5 to 5 from the field and scored a few points against MSU. One day in his career, he made a season-long 50-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter. Three of his five attempts were from more than 40 yards.
Montana advanced to the FCS playoffs and won the first round bye in the second round with home court advantage. The Grizzlies are now scheduled to host the winners of the Northern Iowa/Eastern Washington State game at Washington Grizzlies Stadium on Friday, December 3rd at 7pm.
