It’s Aug. 1 and that means the first day of school is just around the corner.
During the month of August, Supervisor Koran T. Saines (D-Sterling) will host another Back-to-School Supply Drive to assist students, families, and educators in the Sterling District to alleviate the burden of back-to-school shopping as much as possible.
High-need items include dry erase markers, cleaning and COVID supplies (masks, hand sanitizer, tissues, sanitizing wipes etc.), colored folders with pockets and prongs, backpacks and lunch boxes, ear buds and headphones, hard pencil boxes/cases, writing utensils (pre-sharpened #2 pencils, multicolor highlighters markers, crayons, etc.), glue, glue sticks and tape, loose leaf paper (spiral and amp), composition notebooks, index cards, and three-ring binders (between 1”-3”).
Collection boxes for donated items will be at the Sterling Library at 22330 S. Sterling Blvd.; the Sterling Community Center at 120 Enterprise Street; Soldierfit Gym at 21592 Atlantic Blvd. and New Virginia Majority at 21515 Ridgetop Circle, Suite 240.

I’ve always found this to be a good cause and donate each year. If you can find it in your heart to help kids only once per year, educational tools are an excellent choice.
So, the guy that votes for the LCPS $1B+/year operational budget and hundreds of millions of dollars of construction bonds, then turns around and holds school supply drive for pencils, markers, glue, etc.
When will you people of Loudoun County ever wake up to the fact that you are being abused? There is no reason for anyone to need to buy these supplies. LCPS is gushing with cash. Your property tax money is going to the administrative class (think Zeigler’s raise) and then you get stuck paying for school supplies on top of having the highest property taxes in Virginia because you have the most expensive school district in Virginia. There is a sucker born ever minute and, in Loudoun County, they have been born for decades.
The best thing an individual with funds can do is support a teacher. They have their own lists. If your child or grand child’s teacher has a list; please become their benefactor. Teachers need volunteers to help them as well. Please start reaching out to them and provide support. Because this is a woman’s field they are taken advantage of like no other professional. The single teachers are hit the hardest. Help them with their list of supplies and assist them with offering them to copy, put together booklets etc.
