PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- A total of 115 students took part in the Orange High School Regatta, a series of boat races at the school’s indoor pool in May.
Students in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Chemical Science, AP Physics, Honors Physics, Wood Design, Design-Tech, Robotics, Computer Science and Chinese 3 named, designed and constructed two dozen boats made of cardboard and packaging tape.
The students had to enter the boat and paddle across two laps of the pool, allowing for a change of captain midway through.
The grand champion trophy went to DJ TAL with a time of 1 minute and 18 seconds. The team featured Audrey Blasier and Lucy Campbell in the boat, with teammates David-Emmanuel Austin, Tyler Diviney and Jacob Dvorin assisting in the design and cheering them on from the sidelines.
Fastest Overall Boat for one lap went to Court Jess-ter, featuring Eleanor Fleming, Nathan Claypool, Nick Bustamante and Lucas Shell.
Winning the Team Spirit Award was Biohazard, composed of Truman Williams, Remy Perry, Gal Naveh, Gabi Kalir, Marissa Goldschmidt, Caitlin Jonke, Knia Parks-Hairston and Ethan Moon.
The Epic Failure Award went to Party Pontoon, made up of Griffin Ginosar, Brianne Lipton, Benjamin Wei, Anjali Chepyala and Charlie Rubsamen.
Earning the Judges’ Choice Award was the USS Asian Fusion team of Sean Lipton, Lindsey Wang, Laura Wei and Anna Wolf.

Athletes sign letters of intent
Four Orange High School student-athletes who will participate in varsity athletics at the college level were honored Tuesday (May 31) by Athletic Director Timothy Porter, 12th-grade guidance counselor Megan Petronsky and the OHS athletic department.
They ceremoniously signed letters of intent while surrounded by family, friends and coaches.
Noah Bromberg will play NCAA Division III baseball at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. Gwendolyn Darrah will run NCAA Division I track and field at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind.
Lillian Klinginsmith will take part in NCAA Division III swimming at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. Holden Thomas will run NCAA Division III track and field at Nazareth College in Pittsford, N.Y.

The Orange Inclusive Preschool rolled out the pomp and circumstance for its annual graduation ceremony, promoting the students to kindergarten.
On May 26, the OIP students were among the first groups in Orange Schools to don the 2022 graduation caps and receive their diplomas.
Principal Christine Goudy and the OIP staff introduced each child moving on to kindergarten in front of the gathered crowd of family and friends.
Following their respective class ceremonies, the members of the future Class of 2035 moved to the playground, where they were treated to popsicles and ice cream.
Brady Middle School students enjoyed the annual Celebration of the Arts in May.
After Courtney Norton sang the national anthem, seventh-grader Phoebe Glesius was announced as the 2022 BMS Flag winner. Her design will be on display throughout the next school year.
Performances included the eighth-grade chamber strings, a Dancing Classrooms exhibition, slam poem readings by Sophie Lang and Vivian Qi, a song performed by teachers Jeff Kapostasy and Anne Bing, and piano performances by Vivian Qi and Anshul Sharma.
Students involved in the various clubs and activities at BMS were also introduced by Student Council representatives.
